Poli Grappa Sassicaia - 500 ml
Introduction
Poli Grappa Sassicaia is a prestigious artisanal spirit from Italy, representing a unique collaboration between the Poli Distillerie in the Veneto region and the renowned Tenuta San Guido estate in Bolgheri, Tuscany. The distillery was founded in 1898 by GioBatta Poli in Schiavon and remains a family-run enterprise dedicated to traditional batch-style distillation in copper pot stills. This specific grappa was born in 1993 from a meeting between Jacopo Poli and Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta, the producer of the legendary Super-Tuscan wine, Sassicaia.
Spirit Description
This majestic grappa is distilled from the fresh pomace of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes used to make Sassicaia wine. It undergoes a meticulous double maturation process, aging first for four years in French oak barriques and then finishing for an additional six months in barrels that previously held Sassicaia wine.
Colour: It displays a bright, glowing amber hue with golden reflections.
Aroma: The nose is complex and fragrant, featuring scents of toasted hazelnuts, peanuts, and dark chocolate, accented by notes of coffee, vanilla, and a hint of liquorice.
Palate: It offers a dry, layered, and harmonious palate with deep flavours of cocoa, mocha, honey, and processed fruits, alongside notes of toasted nuts and eucalyptus.
Body: This spirit is full-bodied, majestic, and characterized by great structural complexity.
Finish: It concludes with an exceptionally long and persistent finish dominated by the sweet character of vanilla and lingering honey notes.
ABV: This expression is bottled at 40%.
Food Pairing
The intense fruit and toasted nuances of this aged grappa make it an ideal digestif or a companion to rich, flavourful treats.
Sweet: It pairs elegantly with rich dark chocolate, almond-based biscuits, and hazelnut desserts.
Savoury: For a traditional experience, it can be served alongside a fine espresso as a 'Caffè Corretto'.
Indulgence: The spirit's wood and spice profile also complements the smoking of a good cigar.
Serving: To fully experience its layered aromas, it is best enjoyed neat at a room temperature of 18°C to 20°C in a tulip-shaped glass.
