Olga Raffault Chinon 2008

This red wine originates from the Loire Valley in France, specifically the Touraine subregion, under the Chinon AOC appellation. Domaine Olga Raffault is considered one of the long-time reference points for top-quality, traditional Chinon wines. The estate's history began with Olga and her husband Pierre, but Olga was left to run the business after his unexpected death in 1947, receiving help from Ernest Zenninger, who became the winemaker. Today, the estate maintains a traditional winemaking philosophy, allowing the excellence and expression of their sites to shine through.

The 'Les Picasses' is the estate's flagship Cabernet Franc, which makes up 100 per cent of the varietal composition in this wine. The wine displays a slightly mature red/black colour. It presents a coolish, pure, spicy, and concentrated nose, with aromas of ripe blackberry, strawberry, prune, orange rind, earth, and musk. On the palate, this Cabernet Franc is sweet, intense, perfectly ripe, and balanced, showing a supple and deep texture. The alcohol by volume (ABV) is noted as 12.5 per cent. The grapes for this wine are from vines that average at least 50 years old and are farmed organically. The wine is aged for one to two years in large oak and chestnut foudres, and then further in bottle before its late release, with an optimal drinking window extending to 2045.
