Feudi Di San Gregorio Serpico 2001

Feudi di San Gregorio Serpico 2001 is a bold red wine from the Irpinia region of Campania, Italy. Established in 1986 by the Capaldo and Ercolino families, the winery has become a leading force in the modern renaissance of Southern Italian viticulture. Their winemaking philosophy focuses on the restoration and promotion of indigenous varieties, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and collaborations with contemporary artists to connect wine, culture, and local terroir.

Wine Description

This vintage is impenetrable and inky in colour. The nose is staggeringly rich, offering a complex bouquet of ultra-ripe berries, black cherry jam, and wild cherries, layered with notes of cloves, cinnamon, chocolate, and licorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, providing mouth-coating, 'deep-pile' tactile sensations that combine iron-like strength with a voluptuous, enveloping texture. Stylistically, it is lauded for its impressive tannic clout and spicy minerality, concluding with an infinitely deep and persistent finish featuring hints of coffee, cacao, and tobacco. The varietal composition is 100% Aglianico, harvested in part from historic, century-old pre-phylloxera vines. The optimal drinking window for this 2001 vintage is projected to remain open until approximately 2034.
