Chateau Pontet Canet 2003

Chateau Pontet Canet is a Fifth Growth estate located in the heart of Pauillac on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Owned by the Tesseron family since 1975, the estate has become renowned for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture and meticulous vineyard management. With deep gravel soils ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, Pontet Canet consistently produces wines that reflect both power and elegance.

Wine Description

The 2003 vintage of Chateau Pontet Canet displays a deep garnet hue, showing the richness of the hot vintage. On the nose, it offers ripe aromas of blackberries, cassis, and plum, intertwined with notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, and a hint of graphite. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, with velvety tannins supporting layers of dark fruit, roasted coffee, and spice. Despite the warmth of the year, the wine maintains remarkable balance and finishes with lingering notes of cocoa and dried herbs. The blend is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with an optimal drinking window from now through the early 2030s.

Accolades

  • "Wine Spectator - 92 points."
  • "Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 90 points."
  • "Decanter - 93 points."

Food Pairing

This bold Pauillac pairs beautifully with herb-crusted lamb, grilled ribeye steak, or rich mushroom risotto. Aged cheeses such as Comté or aged cheddar also make excellent companions.
Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
