Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2005
Situated in the prestigious Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a renowned Second Grand Cru Classé estate. The property was historically managed for nearly 30 years by the legendary May Eliane de Lencquesaing, whose drive solidified its reputation as a 'Super Second' before she sold it in 2007 to the Rouzaud family, owners of Maison Louis Roederer. The winery is celebrated for its unique winemaking philosophy that often incorporates a higher percentage of Merlot than its neighbours, resulting in wines known for their exceptional elegance, silkiness, and seductive fragrance.
Wine Description
The 2005 vintage presents a deep ruby red colour with purple hues, offering a complex and heady bouquet of cassis, cedar, tobacco, and cinnamon, interspersed with delicate notes of rose and violet. On the palate, this medium to full bodied wine is sophisticated and refined, displaying a lush core of black fruits, chocolate, and forest floor. It is characterized by an effortless balance, featuring very fine, 'feather pillow' tannins and a well judged acidity that leads into a long, smooth finish with notes of exotic spices and graphite. The 2005 blend consists of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. While it is drinking beautifully now, it has the structure to continue evolving until approximately 2035 to 2045.
