Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2003
Situated in the prestigious Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux, France, Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a world renowned Second Grand Cru Classé estate. Historically managed for decades by the legendary May Eliane de Lencquesaing, the property was acquired in 2007 by the Rouzaud family, owners of the Louis Roederer Champagne house. The winery is celebrated for a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes elegance and silkiness, often incorporating a significant proportion of Merlot to create a more voluptuous and sensuous profile than many of its Pauillac neighbours.
Wine Description
The 2003 vintage displays a deep garnet brick colour and offers a glorious bouquet of jammy black currants, cherries, cedarwood, and truffle, with subtle hints of licorice and incense. On the palate, this full bodied wine is opulently textured and dense, revealing layers of ripe dark berries, chocolate, and cinnamon spice. Despite the intense heat of the year, it maintains a surprising freshness and purity, supported by deep, velvety tannins and a supple, polished finish. The 2003 blend is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. While it has reached full maturity and is drinking beautifully now, well stored bottles should continue to provide pleasure through 2030 or beyond.
