Bodega Chacra 'Barda' Pinot Noir 2022

Bodega Chacra 'Barda' Pinot Noir 2022 originates from Argentina, within the Rio Negro Valley subregion of northern Patagonia. Established in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta—the grandson of the creator of Italy's iconic Sassicaia—the winery was born from a passion for finding an unobstructed expression of Patagonia's unique terroir. The estate's philosophy is rooted in biodynamic and organic viticulture, operating as a 'closed circuit' that produces its own compost and preparations to maintain a self-sustaining ecosystem. The name 'Barda' refers to the youngest vineyards on the estate, originally planted in 1990 on slightly sandy, alluvial soils.

Wine Description

This Pinot Noir presents a bright, translucent ruby-red hue in the glass. The sensory profile is highly aromatic and ethereal, offering a nose of fresh red berries, cherries, and rose petals, underscored by hints of damp earth, chamomile, orange peel, and sandalwood. On the medium-bodied palate, it is dry, lean, and vibrant, delivering concentrated flavours of red plum, raspberry, and pomegranate balanced by a refreshing acidity and fine, dusty tannins. The finish is clean, linear, and persistent, showcasing a strong mineral character and a touch of herbal freshness.

  • Varietal Composition: 100% Pinot Noir.

  • ABV: Typically 12.5%.

  • Organic Status: Certified organic and biodynamic; the wine is produced from own-rooted vines and fermented with indigenous yeasts.

  • Stylistic Notes: The 2022 vintage underwent an interesting fermentation split equally between concrete vats, barrels, and stainless steel tanks; it was aged for approximately 8 to 11 months in a combination of concrete and used French oak barrels to preserve its characteristic purity and 'crunchiness'.
